Fred and George: Autumn by The-Starhorse Fred and George: Autumn by The-Starhorse
For :iconweasley-detectives:'s Autumn/Halloween Contest. Yellow doesn't scan for crap, so I put a little bit of curves on this in PS so you can see it better. It still doesn't look half as good as the original, and the curves burned out some bits, but oh well. I have to find a better scanner.

Watercolors + pencils. I love autumn. I love Fred and George. Autumn + Fred + George = Horse will probably be drawing more like this.

I don't usually ask for fullview, but because of the yellow, fullview would be nice.

I'm going to gush. Prepared? Okay.

This is a wonderful composition. Let's start with the background. First, I love how the trees frame the twins, but don't make the picture look confined. I also really like the color...the hazy yellow gives it a sort of afterlife-ish look (the white void works there too), so it's almost like the two of them are meeting in some other world. And their coloring - the brights/darks - really draw the eye towards the center, right to them.

On the other hand, it also just looks like two brothers strolling through an autumn forest. So I love how it works on both levels.

Aw, thank you so much. I really love watercolor, enough to stick with it, I think. I have a lot of work head of me, but thank you, it's nice to hear that some of my early attempts are turning out ok. This medium is really fun, and it's actually making me think about composition more than digital work ever did. I don't know why that is, but for some reason, when I'm faced with blank paper as opposed to a blank screen, I think harder.

Sorry about the late reply, by the way. I've been kept away from the computer for the last several weeks, but I'm getting caught up now. (I hope.)

This is beautiful! I love the rich autumn colours and the twins' outfits (green and red are definitely their colours ^^). Also, the perspective here is great - you just get better and better with these watercolours!

I feel a Fred-swoon coming on...

Thanks. :) Aw, trees are great fun. They don't have to be straight, which is a great bonus, since I draw straight lines about as well as I draw circles. Which is not at all well. ;)

Honestly, I'm just looking at trees and sketching them. They're amazingly easy to do. (Not that I don't still have tons to learn about doing proper foliage.) But check out your back yard and just do a sixty-seconds sketch of whatever bush or tree you see. It helps.

By the way, I see that you have watercolor in your gallery (which is amazing, by the way). How do you get it to scan in so nicely? Every time I scan in yellows and oranges, it barely shows up.

after scanning picture`s i calibrate the colors( for example yellows and oranges) in photoshop - or buy better
scanner, but it never reach the quality of the original artwork ...

Beautiful! I love this ... *sighs*
(I love autumn, too, it's beautiful, so I might try and draw a picture myself; it's already in my head)
I noticed that you haven't told us who is who this time but if I had to guess, I would say George on the left Fred on the right. Am I right? ;)
