Fireflight: Sky Dancing by The-Starhorse Fireflight: Sky Dancing by The-Starhorse
Another sketchbook night sky thing. Fireflight, either dancing or falling, or both. I'm not sure he cares which. ;)

Aquabee sketchpad + watercolor + ink + salt.

I like to imagine that he's leaping from some tall height to ninja-hug one of his brothers. :P

Could be a bit of both, but i think you're right, he doesn't care. He's having fun!

I like the salt technique as was curious if it leaves the paper with rough spots?

Whatever he's doing, he looks like he's enjoying himself. :D Just hope someone is down there to catch him!

I love your watercolors. They always look so warm and soothing.

...I think Fireflight here is becoming my favorite Aerialbot. Something about him just makes me want to hug him.

You drew him!!!! *hugtackles* Thank you!!

He's so adorable...and no, he wouldn't care if he was falling or dancing or whatever. He enjoys the smaller things, the simple joys in life.

I love it

This looks so very pretty, and both his frame and the sky work very well. I love the different hues of the sunset, and the salt also gives an interesting texture.

I love Fireflight, he's such a sweetiepie! And these colors are great!

Im curious, did you use salt on your backround watercolor? Like, at all? To get that sort of grainy looking texture? Because it looks like that to me, but I could be wrong...

Thanks. :) Yep, that's salt. I should probably add that to the notes. Amazing how this sketchpad holds up to washes and salt. I'm so buying another one.

But the background isn't attacking the image. I always suffer that problem, that the background slowly but surely seeps into the spaces I'm trying to leave for stuff.

Oooh. I see what you're saying. Well, are you letting the whole page get wet? I paint around my whites, which means I leave them bone dry. If any of my wash gets on my whites (and it does sometimes), I lift it off quick -- especially if that sucker is staining.

It takes practice. I used to use masking fluid for a lot of stuff I just paint around now.

Ahh. Yeah, I've not painted in a billion years but I would always try to do a wash background and that would make it hard to keep the foreground dry.
